The theme for this week is inspired by a movie. Now, I had a lot of movies in mind to base this challenge around but for some reason "Blade Runner" popped in my head. I thought it couldn't be done then I got an idea!
I picked up some of the China Glaze Hunger Games polishes in a recent sale. I bought these from Sally's Beauty and they seem to be selling out fast! Also, a fan sent me a couple which I really appreciate! Thank you! No, I have not read the books yet but plan to.
Here are the swatches photographed under varying lighting situations and angles. I'm trying to capture the colors as accurately as possible. Click to enlarge photos.
I picked up some mini polishes from H&M. I've heard that they are really good quality despite being from a clothing retail store and are really popular on other nails blogs. These were so cute, how could I pass them up?
L to R: Strawberry Lollipop, Summer Sunrise, Pale Violet and Pear Ice Cream
Most of last year, I went to rock concerts solo just because I couldn't get no one to come with me or my friend go sick. yadayaddya! Someone always has an excuse NOT to do something! Contrary to popular belief, rock concerts aren't these seedy violence ridden arenas where Lizards like myself are robbed and maimed. I'm a short Lizard too that still gets carded.
My strategy? Buy an overpriced concert beer & hot dog and offer to buy the person next to me a beer or hot dog then usually we talk and enjoy the show! Beers and dogs, the great equalizer!
Finally, I stayed up late and did a rock concert mani. I usually run out of time and don't get to change the color I'm wearing. Yeah, I'm quirky like that. Tonight, I'm going to see this band.
The base color is China Glaze's Smoke and Ashes with the Puscifer band logo (No copyright infringement intended.)
The logo I printed out on a shipping label and stuck to my nail and polished over it. It's a little raised but it will do. I do want to try making my own waterslide decals but a pack of decal paper is $25.
MJK's finest work to date. The show will be awesome!
The demon-logo is on his ring.
Have you ever gone to a show by yourself because you really wanted to go?
China Glaze's Aquadelic is from this Spring's collection. It featured 12 brightly colored shades plus a re-release of a glitter topcoat, Techno. Most of the colors were sold out by the time I went searching for them in stores. The ones still in store seemed really similar to colors already in my collection. Luckily Aquadelic was in stock which was the one I wanted the most.
3-coats with topcoat. Photographed under artificial light.
I tried to capture the color true to life. In some lighting, it's bluer or there's a tinge of green.
China Glaze Aquadelic is a bright turquoise creme. I thought it would be a For Audrey dupe but it's not. It's bluer, less dusty and more vibrant. Surprisingly, the formula was a little streaky and sticky and didn't spread very well which is unusual for China Glaze. Despite this, the formula is workable and I did a layer of Poshe to dry it more quickly.
Also, this stained despite wearing a base coat. I will have to do a lemon whitening treatment soon.
Overall, I really liked the Electropop polishes. I didn't pick up anymore due to the fact I have similar colors from other brands or most the the Up & Away colors which offered a better variety of colors.
I own most of the Up & Away colors and I use it the most for my nail art. To date, I'd say it's my favorite China Glaze collection. I really ought to look into getting the remaining polishes to complete my collection.
What did you think of the Electropop polishes? What's your favorite China Glaze collection to date?
The theme this week for the challenge gallery is animal print nails. I've only done two other animal print manis. This is where Konad Plate M57 comes in handy. It has zebra and leopard print. Now, you can free hand animal relatively easily but I prefer stamping to save on time.
I stumbled across the Pretty & Polished Etsy shop through Facebook. I'm so glad I found it. I did not know there were more custom frankeners selling their polishes other than Lynnderella. Lynnderalla and Pretty & Polished are one-woman shops, please don't bombard them with hate mail when something is out of stock!
I picked up some glitters and a mint-holo called Able Pam
2-coats with top coat in indirect sunlight.
Pretty & Polished Able Pam is a seafoam green with subtle holo shimmer. I should have shook it up because on her store it says the holo pigment may settle in the bottom. The polish applied perfectly in 2-coats and I had no issues with balding or streakiness. Overall, I like this color. It's very retro.
Also, a mint-green holo has been on my lemming frankening list. I tried mixing my own but all I got a shimmery money color which was still pretty cool but not what I was looking for.
Able Pam is currently out of stock at the moment. I'm sure it will be back in stock soon. I also like the fact she offers full and half sizes. Shipping was great and my polishes arrived in less than week!
A couple of weeks ago I posted some really color inaccurate photos of Nails Inc. Warwick Way. I could not for the life of me get it to capture. It kept showing up as a blue! I was really frustrated. It's such a pretty color. I then decided to try out my dotting tools from Mash. I bought these...?? I forgot when.
I hit the "warmify" effect to try to bring out the teal.
Rescue Beauty Lounge's Scrangie has been on my wishlist for awhile now. It's always sold out on their website and one day I popped on there on whim and BAM there she was. I waited extra long for it to be delivered to my work so the mailman wouldn't leave it front at the door. My polish!
RBL Scrangie - 3-coats with topcoat. Created by the famous Scrangie! There are no words to describe this polish. It's a beautiful blue-toned purple with green microshimmer. I've never seen this shade of purple before.
Scrangie (the polish not the person) can be ordered from http://www.rescuebeauty.com/ and retails for $18 USD. Please go pick up this amazing color if you love purple like me!
Hooked! and I set up a swap last month. I receive my package from her a couple of weeks ago. So exciting my first international swap! I chose Essence Forget me Not as the first polish to try.
Essence Forget me Not is a periwinkle creme with blue shimmer. Named after a flower of the same name and color which I forgot about which is ironic. The shimmer is lost once it's on the nail. This was 2-coats with topcoat. The application and dry time was normal but I felt it didn't dry too shiny.
She also sent me a flakie top coat! This is 2-coats of Chi Chi Crystal. It's a dupe for Picture Polish's Festival. It's a mix of green, orange, blue and yellow flakies. The flakies are sparse but I like that. It doesn't over power the base color. Flakies are really hard to photograph!
I will have more photos of my whole swap up soon. I've just been swamped!
I joined Hooked!, Labmuffin and some other fine nail bloggers for a nail art challenge gallery. The challenge this week is a book challenge! Since Hooked! and Labmuffin are a day ahead, I'm posting this on a Tuesday.
