Artsty Wednesday: Inspired by jewelry

This week's theme is inspired by jewelry.  Unfortunately, I can't wear a lot of jewelry because I'm allergic. If I wear a bracelet or necklace it'll cause me to break out but I can wear earrings.

Here's my favorite pair I bought back in 2005:

I really like moon earrings.  I few different pairs. These were handmade.

Unfortunately, I was felled by a severe migraine this week and could not complete this week's challenge.  Here's my tester nail:

I did a black base using Rimmel's Black Satin topped with China Glaze Fairy Dust.  Sorry the lighting drowns out the fairy sparkle.  I tried to paint in the moon and naked lady with silver polish.

Essence Peel Off Base coat overview & PVA glue for easy glitter removal?

Now, we all love wearing glitter nail polish from time to time. We just hate removing it! There's some methods to make glitter removal easier i.e. the felt method, the foil method or the scrub like hell method! These methods involve acetone and cotton balls and can be smelly and time consuming.
Luckily, Essence Australia released a product called Ready for Boarding Peel off base coat to ease our glitter removal woes.

Random franken creations

Suffice to say the popularity with custom made nail polish is definitely on the rise!  Many "indie" polishes are great while others not so much.  There was the whole drama about rusty mixing balls, curling glitters, defective formulas and one person ripping people off for their money.  I did not want to take the gamble dealing with the possibility of a defective "indie" polish so I took matters into my own hands.

Arsty Wednesday: Frame nails

The theme this week is frame nails. There are a couple of different ways to achieve this look from what I've seen. I tried using couple of different polish from the spring OPI Spiderman collection for this week's manicure.

I don't think metallics were the best choice here. The blue was sheer and didn't cover well.  It showed every imperfection on my nail and each brush stroke. The base is Into the Night and the green is Just Spotted a Lizard.   I used loose gold hex glitter to frame it in.

Have you tried frame nails? How did it turn out?

Zoya Evvie

Zoya Evvie is from the 2012 Designer Collection which was a set of cream polishes.  I'm picking out the fall colors I like; it seems to be a lot of repeats for the collections this season.

Under artificial lighting

Zoya Evvie is a smokey teal polish.  I couldn't decide if it was more green or not.  Definitely a fall color as well as office appropriate.  It applied very smooth.  I should have waited longer for it to dry.  I did get sheet marks the following morning.

Evvie and the rest of the fall 2012 collections can be found at Zoya.com or any authorized retailers.

Artsy Weds: Sponging

The theme this week is sponging.  Sponging is one of the simplest nail art techniques; it only requires a sponge!  You can use a makeup sponge, eyeshadow applicator or a stipple sponge from the art store.  Simply apply a bit a nail polish on your sponge and stipple onto your nail.  You can use any color scheme to create gradients or any type of effect.

Here's one of my first attempts at nail art:

Base: Essie Knockout Pout
Sponging: China Glaze Happy Go Lucky
Stamping: BM21

Have you tried sponging as a nail art technique?

NOTD: Zoya Trixie

I've been on the quest to find the perfect silver polish. Something mirror-like, reflective and applies streak free. I say I can end my search with Zoya's Trixie.

Zoya's Trixie.  It's a silver foil. Very dense and reflective. It was late when I applied this. I wanted something quick that applied well and this did the job!  This hints of yellow are the sun reflecting off of it.

Awesome!  Also, I had to shorten my nails a bit. I kept getting snags on the sides or breaks at the corners.

Re-Swatch: Illamasqua Vice

I used Vice as my basecolor for yesterday's corset nails.  Thought I'd re-swatch Vice now that my nails are longer.  Previously, I had cut my nails rather short when I had worn this color, as seen here.

Illamasqua Vice. It sometimes takes on this berry toned shade in certain lighting situations.  This was taken outdoors in the afternoon sun.

Side to side comparison.

I believe the Theater of the Nameless polishes are still available in Sephora.  They're just not in the main display.

Artsy Wednesday: Matte & Glossy Corset Nails

This week's theme is matte and glossy.  I used a couple of Illamasqua's polishes for this week's theme.  I chose Vice and Faux Pas, both colors that dry to a semi-matte looking finish.  I replicated their corset nails design from their Theater of the Nameless ad campaign.
